PALEO BILL: POMBO AMENDMENT DEAD !

The latest news is that the Paleo Bill will not be introduced in the House Resources Committee

at all. I got this info directly from the fellow who’s “killed “ the bill for us.

At the end of September, John Culberson (R-Texas) was visiting our club show ,and was talking

with one of our members . When he mentioned that he was a member of Congress, our club member

immediately remembered my concern with the Paleo Bill , and introduced me to him. Culberson is an avid

mineral and fossil collector, and at that time promised to see what he could do to help kill the bill.

I saw him yesterday at another show. He proudly told me about a fossil jaw he’d found while

collecting in Texas. Of course, I had to remind him of the Paleo Bill and of the possibility, if the bill should pass,

of his no longer being able to go collecting in certain areas, or owning the fossil he’d found.

He told us that following our conversation in September, he’d spoken with the Chair of the House

Resources Committee, and was promised that the Bill would NOT be introduced in committee. He’s evidently quite friendly with the Chair (Pombo-R-California) and believes that the bill is permanently killed for this session.

BUT—he says we still need to urge everyone to continue writing to their own representatives and to Pombo, so that we as individuals are on record as opposing this type of legislation and this bill. Carolyn Weinberger
