CML&MS Program for the April 17, 2008 meeting.

Our speaker for the night is fellow club member Neil Snepp. His topic will be “Fossils and Rocks We Have Known”. Neil and his late wife, Connie, served the club well over the years and actively shared their interest and knowledge of fossils, rocks and minerals with all of us. From the beaches of Florida, to the beaches of Lake Superior, and many quarries and other places in between, the Snepps were avid collectors of fossils, agates and other materials. Neil is actively carrying on their long tradition.

After Neil’s presentation, we will have a short ‘Mini Silent Auction’ for those that bring materials to sell or share. Please give me your suggestions for future meeting program topics. Thanks. Milt Gere

Budget as proposed, Roger Laylin seconded the motion. Vote taken, motion passed.

2) Discussion ensued on “committees”; permanent committees (per by-laws) and special committees that

can be established by the club president and who can also appoint persons to committees. Positions that are

not elected are appointed by the President. It was suggested that a Website Committee be established;

President Kris Wood appointed Lyle Laylin as committee chair and webmaster. Designation of a committee

to enable the appointed committee chair to have a vote in issues presented at the board meetings.

Board Meeting: March 6, 2008

President: Kris Wood called the meeting to order at 7:08 pm at the Okemos Public Library.

As it is the President’s job to find a speaker for the banquet, Kris asked if someone could volunteer to

do this that would have better connections in finding someone – Elaine Beane said she would look into it.

Kris asked that a notice be put in the newsletter for polished stones for Ele’s Place

(which they use in their program). There was some discussion of having the Board meeting on the

same night as the club meeting (possibly before the regular meeting?); several folks have quite a distance

to travel to meetings and this would involve one night rather than two of having to come into Lansing.

Vice President: Milt Gere – The March program will be the Silent Auction. The April meeting

Program will be speaker – Larry Molloy (Oakland University) – U.P. Mining History. Also, club

needs to find meeting place for June (since the school is closed by then).
