Pres says

This weekend, April 30, May 1, has been a sad weekend for our club. Bettie Patterson passed away Saturday, May 1, after having had a severe heart attack on Friday. Our best wishes and prayers go out to her daughter, Pam.

The annual banquet will be on Thursday, May 20. If you have not purchased your tickets, $10 for adults and $3 for children, please do so as soon as possible. You voted on the menu so you know what a good dinner we will have. Come early for the hospitality table and, if you

choose, bring one of your favorite munchies.

Our speaker will be David Szymanski, a PHD candidate at the MSU Department of Geological Science, who will speak on "Volcanoes and Minerals: Crystal Formation in Magmas and Lavas." Hope to see many of you there.

The June meeting is being scheduled to be at Woldemar. We will be able to see their new facilties. More in the June newsletter. Thanks Mary

IN MEMORIUM

It is with great sorrow that we report the passing of Bettie Patterson, on May 1,2004. Bettie served as president of our club in 1967, 1989 and 1993, served our club for years as our laiason officer and was a source of protocol. Bettie shared her love of our hobby by opening her home for us to see and learn from her knowledge of minerals, taught a class in crystal shapes, and taught us how to display our collections. Many of our board meetings were held at Bettie's home. Bettie was very involved in our annual gem and mineral show, acting as chairman, hostess, announcing at the show and also setting up our fluorescent booth. Bettie will be sorely missed and our sympathies go out to her family

BANQUET

The Banquet will be held on May 20th at the Masonic Lodge in Okemos, the Social Hour starts at 5:30 p.m., dinner promptly at 6:30 p.m. Tickets needed to be reserved by May 14. If you neglected to get your tickets, or can’t make it in time for the meal, you are still welcome to join us for the program.

For the social hour the Refreshment Committee will be providing punch, crackers, etc. We ask club members to help with expenses by bringing a favorite dip or spread to share. Thanks in advance.

We are planning to have displays as usual so if you have something to share with the club please bring it along. If you have specimens or other hobby-related items that you would like to donate as door prizes, you can bring them --wrapped-- to the banquet.
