Show

Its only a little over a month until our 40th annual show, so a lot of this newsletter will deal with the show. There will be sign up sheets at the meeting for several different areas, please come prepared to sign up, if you can’t make it to the meeting, but can help at the show call the chairperson of the area that you would like to help in. The chairpersons are as follows:

         Friday Morning Children’s Tours  = Mary Gowans-351-6136

Displays = Neil Snepp-339-2853 (Neil’s goal is to have 60 displays, so lets help him out).

         Children’s Table = George Heaton 339-8914

Fluorescent Booth = Ed Drown 347-5097

Silent Auction = Elaine Angstman 676-4172

Demonstrations Coordinator = Alice Turner 694-9596

Admissions Coordinator = Sue Casler 694-1233

Raffle Coordinator = Christine Juroszek 339-8628

Show Announcer = John Juroszek 339-8628

Hospitality Break Room/Food Coordinator = Jean Anne Piotrowski 269-948-9589

All these people put in many hours to make the show a success, so lets plan on giving them lots of help. Involve your friends especially on Friday Morning, we can offer them a free lunch and a free admission to the show. Last year Show Chair had 8 non-members helping, who can beat that number?

A reminder: The Show Committee will be enforcing their rule, that in order to have free admission to the show a member must put in at least 2 hour at some show duty, enter a display or demonstrate a lapidary skill.  Remember that the club hospitality-break area is intended for use by the dealers and actively working club members.

Christine Juroszek advises that Raffle Tickets are expected to be available at the September meeting.

She also asks to be told of or given items suitable to be included in the raffle, as soon as possible.

                                       RE:  Club Materials Storage

At the June meeting we discussed the problem presented by the Turners, understandable decision that

Club material should be stored at a location other than their garage. As no club member felt that their residence was arraigned in a suitable layout such as the Turner’s i.e.; enough room and direct easy access, another solution must be found.

            The most viable solutions appeared to be;

(1.)    Acquire a covered cargo trailer of sufficient size to store and haul show material.

(2.)    Rent space at a storage facility.

(3.)    Each member be responsible for storage and transport to the Show of a portion of the Clubs Show materials.

No firm decision was reached!   Vote to be held at this meeting.

We, the Show Committee, as well as all of the Club Members wish to extend the Club’s gratitude to

Alice and Grit Turner for their many years of putting up with the Club materials that were heaped upon them.

d.  Treasurer’s Report.  No activity to report.

e.  Announcements.

*It was suggested by the Board that the Annual Club Banquet be moved from May to June (club would not have to find a meeting location for June).  Neil Snepp stated that the Masonic Lodge Site would be available June 16th, 2006.  Roger Laylin moved that the CMLMS have its annual banquet on the third Thursday in June, beginning in 2006; Alan Hukill seconded the motion.  Vote of membership taken, motion carried.

*Storage of CMLMS “stuff”.  Alternatives/suggestions for storage of club stuff presently stored in Grit Turner’s Barn.  One suggestion is for the club to purchase a trailer for storage (and hauling to the show or elsewhere).  A location has been found to park the trailer when not in use.  Anyone who knows of a storage trailer for sale or where one might be found please contact a board member.

*Neil Snepp regarding the Midwest Federation Convention, suggested that the club host the 2007 convention, which would coincide with our October Rock Show.  [Dearborn Club will host the 2006 convention].  What would this involve?1.  More Displays

2.  Hotel within reasonable proximity of show to serve as Headquarters; place for meetings, Executive-Friday am meeting & lunch; Delegate-Saturday am meeting & lunch; and Banquet on Saturday night.

3.  Additional expenses – exhibitors ribbons, name tags, party favors

7.  Generally there are field trips, however none close by in our area, possibly museum visits.

Neil will be going to the Midwest Federation Convention in August and would like to put in a Bid for us to host the 2007 Midwest Convention.  It was asked if Neil would be the general chairman of this proposed operation – Yes he will.

Alan Hukill moved to authorize Neil Snepp to make a bid at the August 2005 Midwest Convention/Meeting  behalf of our club to host the 2007 Midwest Federation Convention; Lee Laylin seconded the motion.  Vote of membership taken and motion carried.
