MEMBER DISPLAYS

One of the important features of any show are the display cases that the club members and non members bring to the Show to show off their collections or skills.  Viewing these displays give the visitors and club members the opportunity to see mineral specimens and fossils they have never before seen.  This is where learning begins and the inspiration for new collections starts. If you have not yet told Neil Snepp that you will have a display ready for the show, please give him a call.

Specimens  for the Touch And Feel Table (pet rocks) This was very well received last year and we hope  to make it even more user friendly this year. We need more specimens, if you have any to share, please bring them Thursday night. Thank You

Pres Says:

October meeting will be at Ingham County Fairgrounds at 7:30.  Come over

Thursday afternoon  and help put up tables, cover the tables, set up

everything for children's day - see Show Chair Roger's request for help.

If you bring pretty rocks for the Pebble Pond, please run a hose over

them and wash them.  Otherwise, we start out the day with muddy water,

and children like to choose their muddy water puddles and not at the

"Tour."

Sorry, but I have to say it again.  We very much need members to help

and keep the little ones in order if they need it.  All help is very

much appreciated . Ask your friends.

Thanks to all who have been working hard, our summer collectors for all

their contributions, the show committee for all the communication,

phoning, and connecting they did, and to all who worked  to assemble the flats

and kits for the children's tables.

The 2005 CML&MS Show Raffle -- Drawing at 4 PM, Sunday, October 23, 2004 ------------------

Raffle Prize Items Are Still Needed for the 2005 CML&MS Show Auction --- A number of members have donated some very nice Raffle Prize items for this year's raffle. However, we could still use some more items to raise the chance to win. Prizes may be donated until noon of the 23rd. Thank you for your support.

Raffle Tickets are available. They are $1 each, or 6 for $5. . The chance of winning are much greater at our raffle than with most games of chance and a portion of the sale helps support our club's Geology scholarship at MSU.

Remember your friends, relatives & neighbors may wish to purchase tickets too. Why not sell some tickets to them and help a good cause at the same time?

Your help is needed to sell raffle tickets at the show. Sales-help times are open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please give us a call to reserve your time to help. Thank you. Chris and John Juroszek, 2005 Raffle Co-chairs. Phone 339-8628

In Memorium

It is with great sorrow that I report the death of Richard Stevens. Rich died on

August 27th 2005. Rich and Lila have been an important part of our club for many years, putting in many hours on our show and other club activities. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lila and the rest of the Stevens family.

Central Michigan Lapidary and Mineral Society Board Meeting

September 1, 2005

President Richard Miller called the meeting to order at 7:20 pm at the Okemos Public Library.

Board Members Present:  Richard Miller, Sue Casler, Alan Hukill, Roger Laylin, Lee Laylin, Dan Sine, Milt Gere, Mary Gowans, Arie Koelewyn, Elaine Angstman, Chris Juroszek, Gordon Lewis and Marie Lewis (for Lola Pearson).  John Juroszek also in attendance.  [Board members absent:  Ernie Aughenbaugh, Fred Stahmer, Kara Miller, and Gaylord Brooks]

Vice President:  Dan Sine – September Membership Meeting – Program to be presented by Connie Snepp, “Wonder–Full” Fossils.

Recording Secretary:  Sue Casler – Summarized highlights of June Board Meeting – storage trailer discussion and bid for 2007 Midwest Fed. Convention.

Corresponding Secretary:  Lola Pearson has moved out of state [Hutchinson, Kansas].  Need to find person for corresponding secretary position.

Treasurer’s Report:  Alan Hukill – reviewed receipts/disbursements and balance for the months of July and August, 2005.

Directors:  Milt Gere – No report; Chris Juroszek – No report; and Gaylord Brooks – Not present.

Roster Secretary:  Ernie Aughenbaugh – Not present.

Liaison Officer:  Alan Hukill – 1) Midwest Fed. Spring Meeting minutes available; 2) Amer. Fed. Scholarship Foundation certificate for club donation; 3) Delegate packet available for Midwest Fed. Convention, 2006 to be held in Taylor, MI; 4) CMLMS WILL NOT host the 2007 Midwest Convention, Copper County Club got the bid for the 2007 convention; 5) Midwest ballot; nominating committee vote for 2 out of 4.  Mary Gowans moved that Alan Hukill select two names on behalf of the club and send in the ballot.  Roger Laylin seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Publications:  Lee Laylin – Has obtained a new printer and can print club newsletter; it was asked if the club could contribute toward price of ink cartridge OR suggested charge so much per page printed and then bill the club.

Webmaster:  Arie Koelewyn – show flyer needs to be put on the website, Arie needs an electronic version sent to him and he will put it on.

Show:  Mary Gowans reported that starting September 8, she will start taking reservations for the Children’s Tour (Friday, Oct. 21, AM).  Need a volunteer for “orientation” talk to kids on the bus/or in lobby before they enter.  Roger Laylin volunteered.

Roger Laylin – 1) Archie will NOT be at our show this year; who should we contact to replace?  Additionally, OUTCROP will be retiring after this year’s show.  2) Storage trailer; Roger found one (and purchased it), 16’ by 8’ by 8’, can load 6,000 lbs.  All club stuff cannot be put back in Grit’s garage after the show.  It was suggested that a vote be taken at the Membership Meeting on the purchase of this trailer.  3) With respect to the “SUE” display, what requirements are there on keeping folks away?  We need to check with Neil Snepp on security.

Elaine Angstman – Explained that Jeff and Elaine were building a ROCK Spinning Wheel.  One pays a quarter(?) and spins the wheel, whatever number it lands on you get a rock specimen that is on the corresponding number.

Chris Juroszek – Raffle chairperson, looking for donations for raffle.

It was also mentioned (and something will be put in the newsletter) as a reminder:  Club members who wish to enter the show without cost MUST volunteer a minimum of 2 hours at the show; and also the hospitality area is available to vendors and volunteers only.

New Business:  With Lola Pearson’s move out of State, club needs a new corresponding secretary.

Milt Gere moved to adjourn the meeting, supported by Sue Casler. Meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Sue Casler, Recording Secretary
