The Pres says:
The November meeting is
election of new Board of Directors.
Please come and vote (as if you have not heard that for a while).
Thanks to all the members
and members' friends who helped with the Children's Tour. The teachers love our Friday morning
show. Our club should be very happy and
proud that we are doing our part in the education of Lansing and Lansing area
students in a field that is near and dear to our hearts. Isn't it sad that more
children cannot attend? My report is in
this newsletter.
A special thanks to Roger
for keeping the pebble pond, helping fill and empty it and bringing an
additional pond which really helped the children this year.
A special thanks goes to all
who responded to my plea for plastic bags.
We not only had enough bags for this year but also have enough for next
year. Thank you!
Another thanks goes to all
the members who worked Thursday to set up the show, worked the weekend and
stayed late after the show on Sunday to clean up and stack tables and
chairs.
A special thanks goes to
Jean Ann Wahl-Piotrowski who managed the hospitality "room" and the
many members who contributed all the good food that we happily consumed during
the show. No one went home hungry.
What a great
membership. That's why we have the
wonderful show that we have.

CHILDRENS' TOUR REPORT October 22, 2004
The following
information describes the Childrens' Tour of 2004:
Attendance was down partly
because of two schools who had to cancel at the last minute. Also I eliminated some schools who had never
attended the show (trying to cut down on mailing expenses, but I am not sure
that it was a very significant amount.)
Teachers contacted: 94
teachers plus 21 private/charter school teachers. Again this year, the Catholic schools were closed that day for a
teacher workshop in Detroit for the entire state.
Nineteen schools
attended. Teachers often signed up more
than one class, often two, three or four classes which makes the total not
quite accurate. But it is very close.
This year I was informed by
Mrs. Mary Graven, very loyal teacher from East Lansing, that our Children's
Tour was written into the East Lansing Elementary School guidelines.
Sue Casler commented that
she had collected 28 free certificates from the Tour. This is a good idea and should be continued.

2004 Show
Summary
Well the show is over for another
year. All in all it went well. Friday morning was again a blast. We could have
used more club members help as we had 12 friends working and they were
certainly needed. Mary Gowans again did a marvelous job arranging for the
students enjoyment and education.
The two new dealers had different
receptions, The " Demerly's Rocks & Art Works" were happy with
the results, while "S.R.I. Paleo Labs" were unhappy with their sales.
I made a point of counting club
members in attendance at the show and was pleased at the 58 total. It was good
to see Bessie Rogers, looking good and having a good time.
The efforts put forth by members in
charge of the various show functions was again exceptional, childrens table,
silent auction, demonstrators, displays, admission, raffle, florescent booth,
security, and last but not least FOOD.
A special THANK YOU to all of you in charge as well as all of the members who
assisted during the show.
There will be a wrapup Show Board
meeting at the Laylins ,1770 Sandhill, on Nov.22 at 7pm.
Again thank you all for a
job well done. Roger Laylin 2004 Show Chair

We
send our sympathy to the family of long time member, Larry Tripp, who died
Oct.24th. Larry is another member ,who will be much missed.
Our
sympathy also to Nancy Collins on the loss of her brother, Maynard Smith.
2004
has been a sad year for CML&MS. We have lost Bettie Patterson, Florence
Hill and Larry Tripp, while these members can not be replaced, we hope that some
other members will step up and help fill the void left by them.
