SHOW REPORTS AND NEWS
THANK YOU !!!
Yes a big one to all of the
members who took an active part in making this 41st Show a success. Again a
special thanks to Mary Gowans, Children’s Tour Chairwoman, for her diligent
efforts in contacting teachers and arranging the schedule for the 1100 +
students and the parents and teachers. Surely their attendance and obvious
enjoyment of Friday morning made the efforts by everyone worthwhile. Show
attendance was nearly at prior years level.
The free pass as a part of the children’s gift returned more parents and
children than prior years including a next- door neighbor who attempted
to enter without a child. We were pleased to welcome the new Dealers Tom and
Pam Cottyan “Mineral House”. We were
disappointed that both they and M & W Minerals were the victims of light-
fingered attendees.
A special thanks goes to Chuck Collins who stepped
in at the last minute in place of Jean Ann Wahl-Piotrowski and managed the
hospitality room. He took over after
Jean Ann established the Menu but was required to assist her mother following
her mild stroke. Thanks also to the
many members who contributed all the good food that we happily consumed during
the show. No one went home hungry. What
a great membership. That's why we have
the wonderful show that we have.
Left over in the kitchen were a
small plastic tray and two (2) pair of shears, and on the arena floor two heavy
electric cords. They may be from the
trailer. I don’t remember.
I was pleased with the club member turn out for both
set up and tear down and especially for the Geology Student turn out Sunday
evening. Their young eager bodies were surely appreciated when the members
there were somewhat tired.
New material will be required before
another show. The pebble pond is empty and the fossils that are left are
looking very shop worn and skimpy. Individual and group efforts are necessary
to replenish these required items.
The efforts put forth by members in charge of the
various show functions was again exceptional;
publicity,
children’s table, silent auction, spinning wheel, demonstrator’s, displays,
admission’s, raffle, florescent booth, security, dealer liaison, treasury and
last but not least FOOD. A special THANK YOU to all of
you in charge as well as all of the members who assisted so ably during the
show.
.
There will
be a wrap-up Show Board meeting at the Laylins ,1770 Sandhill,
Nov.15th
at 7 pm all interested members are welcome.
Overall attendance was down slightly
but revenue, with apparently most of the bills in is at or slightly above
average. We await the final tally. Again thanks to one and aaaaaaaaaaaall for
the effort put forward to make the 41st Show a success and enjoyable
to all.
ROGER LAYLIN,
General Chairman
